Pear-Blueberry Green Wonder

 

Happy Monday Everyone!  Can you believe it’s already July?? Yikes!

Mondays are usually quite long for me, and there are days when, between sessions, I feel a bit wiped and I don’t really have time to make anything elaborate to eat, but I refuse to run on empty.  This afternoon being one of those days.  Here’s what I threw in the Vitamix and promptly devoured so quickly that when I finally did remember to take a pic, it was gone ;).

Of course you don’t need the exact ingredients, substituting raspberries, blackberries or strawberries for the blueberries and if you can’t get your hands on organic then that’s ok. For me, the spirulina is a must as well as the coconut oil….well actually, today, ALL the ingredients were a ‘must’ for me.  This was SO GOOD!  If you would like it more frozen-like, you could always add a cup of ice.  This literally took 5 mins to make and really gave me a boost right through the afternoon.  Try it out and let me know if you substituted anything.  Enjoy!

1 pear

1/2 cup of frozen organic blueberries

1 handful of organic baby spinach

1 tsp organic vanilla powder (or a bean or pure extract)

1 tbsp Spirulina

1 tsp extra virgin organic coconut oil/butter

dash of stevia to taste

1 cup water

BLEND and DRINK!

    Perhaps a dumb question, but for the meat-eating, dairy-addicted, wine-lovers out there, what is Spirulina and where do you get it?

      Haha! Spirulina is magic! And I truly believe every household should have a jar handy. It is a blue-green algae chock full of proteins, amino acids, minerals, vitamins and more. It is also a super cleanser It is 70% protein, 90% of it is digestible. If you compare that to an 8oz steak, 22% which is protein and only 15% of it is digestible. It contains more calcium than milk and has 3x the iron of steak.
      I have been taking spirulina almost everyday now for about 15 years. I love that it contains all of the B vitamins which is very important for women. An added plus: a tablespoon a day in your smoothie also makes skin look terrific!

    Just tried it. Super tasty! I didn’t have a pear, so I used a banana. Since blueberries are in season now, I went fresh. Loving all your great tips and info. Big hugs to you and Mr. Be Fit.
